Encouraging employees to use environmentally friendly items, limiting printing, regularly organizing exchanges of old items, etc. These are exemplary activities aimed at realizing the commitment to reduce carbon emissions into the environment that Shinhan Finance has been focusing on implementing over the years.
As a financial company from Korea, in addition to providing optimal financial products and services to Vietnamese customers, Shinhan Finance also contributes to the environment by implementing various ideas and solutions to reduce carbon emissions.
Encouraging the use of environmentally friendly items
Shinhan Finance encourages its members to enhance environmental awareness through activities that involve gifting items made from natural and eco-friendly materials. The company offers charming canvas or straw bags to its members for use in daily activities when coming to the office or during their travels.
On special occasions, Shinhan Finance also presents glass lunch boxes, metal thermos flasks, and ceramic mugs to its members. These items can be used for holding food, water, or coffee as an alternative to daily plastic utensils. These environmentally friendly gifts help minimize plastic waste and inspire employees to adopt a greener lifestyle.

Limit printing when not necessary
In Shinhan Finance offices, printing paper is a rarely used stationery. This is because the company's members understand that they only print when truly necessary and have formed the habit of double-sided printing. Especially with the goal of minimizing the amount of paper used daily, Shinhan Finance has implemented digital platforms and processes for internal and external activities to reduce paper usage. This helps to significantly reduce the time spent on paper-related tasks and allows for a greater focus on customer care.
Furthermore, Shinhan Finance emphasizes investing in technology systems and upgrading service offerings to provide customers with more convenient experiences and reduce paper-based procedures through electronic contracts. Currently, Shinhan Finance customers can easily apply for services such as credit card issuance and loan repayment through the iShinhan financial management app and other digital platforms of the company.
In addition, Shinhan Finance employs various methods to promote minimal printing, such as implementing e-banners and e-backdrops for both internal and external events. Particularly since the beginning of 2023, at 36 branches and service introduction points, the company has also introduced QR code instructions for customers to access information about products. By simply scanning the QR code, customers can easily access all information about products and applicable interest rates at Shinhan Finance.
Organizing a Personal Items Exchange Day – Garage Sales
At Shinhan Finance, one of the most anticipated activities by members every year is the Personal Items Buy & Exchange Day (garage sales). The activity is organized by the SVFC Trade Union annually around December. Each session, this activity attracts nearly 500 members from the headquarters and branches in Ho Chi Minh City to participate. Thousands of "items" are actively sought after by members, including books, cosmetics, jewelry, shoes, fashionable clothing, and more. All these items are priced incredibly affordably. This garage sales activity not only brings benefits to participating members but also holds deep humanitarian significance. The entire amount collected from this activity is contributed to support employees with special and difficult circumstances within the company.
Through three successful iterations, thousands of items have found new owners, contributing to the reduction of waste from household items. Importantly, this also helps spread the spirit of a green environment and promotes a healthy lifestyle among Shinhan Finance members.
In 2023, the garage sales activity will continue to be organized in this December, with the expectation that the event will continue to promote a green lifestyle among internal members and the community.
