How to protect personal information and company’s data

In a potentially risky environment, with just one minute of inattention or lack of vigilance, users can lose/ leak data of themselves and the company, causing unnecessary consequences.

Negligence in protecting information and data.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, one of the causes of information disclosure is that users are not aware of protecting personal data; disclosed during the process of transfer, storage, and exchange for business activities; or exposed due to inadequate protection measures.

Individuals who disclose corporate information and data will not only affect their own reputation, but also greatly affect customer trust and brand reputation. In serious cases, disclosing illegal information, individuals will be subject to penalties according to the law. Therefore, each person needs to raise awareness in protecting their own data/information and that of the business where their company.

Ways to limit information and data leaks.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Deputy Team Head of Information Risk Management Department of Shinhan Finance: "To limit the loss/ leakage of personal information, company’s data, some habits, should practice at work such as: Consider before printing out documents containing customer information/ personal information/ information that needs to be protected... Printouts containing customer information/ personal information / sensitive information must be revoked immediately. And when sending emails with files containing customer information personal information/sensitive information..., this file must be protected with a password and the password must be sent to the recipient via another channel. Avoid opening emails from unknown sources, especially emails that request personal information or bank accounts... You should also use a STRONG password (including uppercase characters, lowercase letters, and lowercase letters, numerical, special characters, length not less than 8 characters) to log in to the computer, protect files, log in to other systems if any and should change passwords periodically or as soon as there is a suspicion that the password is broken unforeseen.”

“If customer/Company data is disclosed illegally, not only will data be lost but also trust with customers and partners will be lost.” - Mr. Tuan emphasized.

In a context of many potential risks, each person needs to raise awareness of self-protection of personal and Company information and data to avoid unnecessary risks and losses.
