Risks of not implement standardizing mobile phone information

From March 31, mobile subscribers who do not standardize their owner information will be cut off and continue their service. In addition, users will also continue to face many other potential risks if they hesitate to register for the "original" registration for their current subscribers.

According to the report of the three-leading telecom in Vietnam, Viettel, VNPT/Vinaphone, and Mobifone, currently (only on these three telecommunications), there are about 3.5 million mobile subscribers who do not have matching information with the national population database. They have a risk of being at risk and disadvantage if they do not standardize information about mobile subscriber owners.

Disconnect, stop service from March 31

The Department of Telecommunications has just issued a notice requesting the operators to stop the operation of subscribers (phone sims) with incorrect information. From March 31, 2023, telecommunications will block phone sims with information that is not "original".

Accordingly, the network operators start a one-way lock for users whose information does not match the information compared with the national population database, and then lock the two-way information for those users. And after 2 months, telecoms will terminate the contract if the users do not register to standardize personal information as prescribed.

The standardization of mobile subscriber owner information is essential to help protect mobile users in the current context when there are more and more sophisticated frauds and theft of subscriber information used for illegal purposes.

Risk of losing numbers, fraudulently appropriating property

Over the years, many cases of sims disputes, even "robbing" sim cards are related to subscriber owner information. In fact, there have been many cases where users lost their sims but could not report the subscription lock as well as restore them due to incorrect registration information, even being used by others for bad purposes. So far, it is very disadvantageous for mobile users.

Some people, after buying a nice digital sim from someone else or buying a pre-registered sim from an agent to use it, forget to register their own personal information, until the sim is lost, or a dispute occurs.

In addition, many users are also receiving fraudulent phone calls, such as impersonating police, law enforcement agencies, network operators, insurance company employees, post offices, and telecommunications bureaus. ... or those who specialize in making spam messages, spam ads, .... This affects, disturbs personal life, even loses money.

Difficulty accessing public and financial services…

The use of unregistered subscriber numbers "official" also encounters many obstacles when using public administrative services, especially services that require the information of the declared phone number to be accurate and have accurate information notification/confirmation via mobile phone number.

According to the government's regulations, mobile subscribers need to provide accurate personal information (full name, identity card / citizenship, date and place of issue...) to the providers' network. ensure synchronous connection of information for mobile subscribers with the national population database will facilitate people when using telecommunications services in case of lost or damaged sim cards, and at the same time protect people's interests when using services on the national public service portal or services outside communication such as banking services, insurance services..

Currently, many services such as finance, banking, insurance, e-commerce, etc., all allow users to register and connect via their own mobile phone number to send messages to confirm information service, warning about the risk of account theft, etc. The identification of this owner subscriber increasingly shows the importance as well as the convenience in connecting information when the data is related to the user. integrated and synchronized.

In particular, when using financial and banking services, updating accurate information with the network operator will help users receive a one-time password (SMS OTP), information on balance fluctuations, payment transactions and more warning messages when detecting accounts being logged in from unknown devices or other important notifications.
